Brian Urlacher likes what he has seen in this off season and now that the season is fast approaching, he likes the Bears’ chances this year. In speaking with Waddle and Silvy on ESPN 1000 Urlacher told the duo:
“The talent we have on this team is phenomenal.”
The Bears franchised RB Matt Forte but he has failed to sign the tender and or show up to any Bears activities. Head Coach Lovie Smith is not too concerned about his star running back…at least to the press he isn’t.
“It’s not an issue for me, and it can’t be,” Smth said. “I look at it (like this): “During the course of the year, you have guys that aren’t here for whatever reason – injuries, whatever. You coach the guys that can go, that can practice. We have been spending all of our time with that. I know Matt Forte. I’m sure he has been spending all of his time getting ready to go. But in the meantime, the best thing we can do for the Chicago Bears is keep this train going, which we’ve done.”
But the rumor mill continues and now there is speculation that an old knee injury would hamper Forte this season or cause arthritis in the immediate future for the 27-year old back. For all the words flying around, Forte isn’t spouting much of them and what he has said has been as diplomatic as an Embassy worker and is happy that his teammates have backed him up.
“They know I’m a good player and obviously a good teammate,” Forte told ESPN. “When you get the support of your teammates, that’s always good.”
Chicago Bears mini camp begins July 25th and runs through August 17th.
